Bassa Reggiana – territory
Strong land, river and commerce, land and fields. Here the story is renewed and the traces of the past are one with the life of every day.
Along the banks
In ancient times the village was an important river port. It followed, historically, the fortunes of Mantua, to which it was annexed until 1631, when it passed to Guastalla. In these lands died the Countess Matilde di Canossa, one of the most important historical figures of the Middle Ages.
Of those years the visible trace of the Rocca remains, a military structure whose structure has hardly changed over the centuries. The large central tower emerges from the city center and dominates the Po plain.
